This workshop is intended for mental health professionals who want to increase their knowledge and skills about men and gender to enhance their therapeutic work. Session 2: The Male Student-Athletes' World: A Consideration of Challenges and Opportunities for College Men Male student-athletes inhabit a world bounded by definitions of manhood. In examining this world, this session looks to reveal the challenges to and opportunities for the development of male student-athletes. Session 3: Beyond the Stereotypes: What Do We Know About Communication and College Men? Stereotypes abound about the ways men communicate-or don't. Popular movies often depict college men as emotionally disconnected and relationally challenged, while best-selling authors detail dramatic communication differences between men and women. Our own experiences can also lead us to broad generalizations about gender and communication. In this session participants will explore what the research says about how well our generalizations fit the ways college men communicate and consider how improved communication can enhance their college (and life) experience. |
